Maritime catering company IFS has opened a new training facility in Manila, aimed at educating and certifying cooks and chefs for the unique challenges maritime cooking presents. As part of their programme, they have implemented new experimental training approaches. One of these approaches is the creation of a virtual maritime kitchen environment with digital cooks. Trainees are instructed to observe these digital cooks while they prepare ingredients, cook food and order supplies. If any action is performed incorrectly, trainees must then correct their behaviour.

The aim of this tool is to make trainees more perceptive of correct and incorrect culinary behaviour in a safe controlled environment. Each runthrough is unique so trainees are required to pay close attention every time. This way they can learn to recognise and correct mistakes in an applied manner.

I was lead developer for this project in collaboration with Videofy and Walbeir. Videofy provided production support and Walbeir designed the 2D and 3D assets, environment, and custom motion captured animations.
